THE COMPANY BEHIND THE TICKER
VBI Vaccines Inc. is a biopharmaceutical firm dedicated to the development and commercialization of vaccines, targeting both infectious diseases and immuno-oncology. Among its commercial offerings is Sci-B-Vac, a prophylactic vaccine designed to prevent hepatitis B (HBV). The company is also actively developing VBI-2601 (also identified as BRII-179), an investigational immunotherapeutic aimed at treating chronic hepatitis B infection. A cornerstone of its research and development is the proprietary enveloped virus-like particle (eVLP) platform. This technology facilitates the creation of eVLP vaccines engineered to mimic viral structures, thereby effectively prompting a human immune response. Among the primary candidates leveraging this eVLP platform are VBI-1901, an immunotherapeutic vaccine targeting glioblastoma, which is currently undergoing Phase I/IIa clinical study, and VBI-1501, a prophylactic vaccine candidate against cytomegalovirus, having already completed its Phase I clinical trial. Further enhancing its pipeline, VBI is developing several coronavirus vaccine candidates, including VBI-2902 and VBI-2901. Beyond its direct pipeline, the company also engages in the strategic development of vaccine platforms and products designed for out-licensing to other pharmaceutical and biotechnology entities. VBI maintains significant collaborative and licensing agreements with key partners such as Brii Biosciences Limited and GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals S.A. Furthermore, it collaborates with the National Research Council of Canada to develop a broad-spectrum pan-coronavirus vaccine targeting COVID-19, SARS, and MERS. A partnership with the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) aims to advance vaccine candidates specifically against emerging COVID-19 variants. Originally established as SciVac Therapeutics Inc., the company rebranded to VBI Vaccines Inc. in May 2016. Its corporate headquarters are situated in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
