RespireRx Pharmaceuticals Inc. is dedicated to researching, developing, and commercializing pharmaceutical products aimed at addressing neurological and psychiatric conditions. The company operates through two primary therapeutic platforms: ResolutionRx, which investigates pharmaceutical cannabinoids, and EndeavourRx, focused on neuromodulators. The ResolutionRx platform encompasses cannabinoids such as dronabinol, a compound that interacts with CB1 and CB2 endocannabinoid receptors. This agent is being explored for its potential in mitigating chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, alleviating anorexia in AIDS patients, and treating obstructive sleep apnea. Their EndeavourRx neuromodulator platform includes two distinct programs: AMPAkines and GABAkines. The AMPAkines program features proprietary compounds acting as positive allosteric modulators (PAMs) of AMPA-type glutamate receptors, designed to enhance neuronal function. Concurrently, the GABAkines program involves their own PAMs for GABAA receptors. A key candidate, CX1739, an ampakine, has successfully completed Phase II clinical trials for both opioid-induced respiratory depression and central sleep apnea. Additionally, RespireRx is advancing CX717, CX1739, and CX1942, which demonstrate potential clinical applications in various areas, including neurobehavioral and cognitive disorders rooted in the central nervous system, spinal cord injuries, specific neurological illnesses, and multiple rare indications. The company, initially known as Cortex Pharmaceuticals, Inc., rebranded to RespireRx Pharmaceuticals Inc. in December 2015. Established in 1987, RespireRx Pharmaceuticals Inc. maintains its corporate headquarters in Glen Rock, New Jersey.
