THE COMPANY BEHIND THE TICKER
Pharmaxis Ltd, an Australian biopharmaceutical company founded in 1998 and based in Frenchs Forest, is globally focused on discovering, developing, and commercializing healthcare solutions for fibrotic and inflammatory conditions. Its operations are organized into two main divisions: the Mannitol Respiratory Business and New Drug Development. Currently, Pharmaxis markets Bronchitol, an inhaled dry powder used in the treatment of cystic fibrosis, and Aridol, a diagnostic tool that identifies hyper-responsive airways to aid in the diagnosis and management of asthma. The company's robust pipeline features several promising candidates. These include oral pan-lysyl oxidase (LOX) inhibitors targeting myelofibrosis and various other cancers, as well as topical pan-LOX inhibitors designed to address skin scarring caused by injuries, surgical procedures, and burns. Pharmaxis is also advancing selective Lysyl Oxidase Like Inhibitors (LOXL2) for a range of chronic fibrotic diseases, such as those affecting the kidneys, lungs, liver, and heart. Additionally, it is investigating semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase for potential use in neuro-inflammatory diseases. Further development includes Orbital, an innovative dry powder inhaler engineered to deliver high drug doses effectively to the lungs.
